The Chimney Projects

Towards a revalorisation of industrial landscapes

The chimney projects are a continuation of the research into ideas of ‘thickening’. The thickening process is introduced into the public space on architectural forms, such as factory chimneys, which exist visually as solitary vertical forms in a landscape. The installation consists of a winding round and a piling up of pipes made of a variety of elements of different colours and thicknesses. The presence of these coloured materials in an urban environment (building sites, …), transforms their role and provokes a visual surprise. This multi-coloured accumulation and the dynamic movement which is created permit the spectator to access another way of perceiving the spatiotemporal dimension of the landscape.
